...It is time now to a little bragging about St. Paul’s church. As you know, we have entered into a Partner Relationship with two parish churches which have been devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The two churches are St. Paul’s Church in Metairie Louisiana (New Orleans) and St. Peter’s by the Sea in Gulfport, Mississippi. Our Vestry has decided that our financial support to these two churches will be divided evenly. Their other needs will be different, of course, and we will attempt to meet these as we are able.
As it turns out, St. Paul’s, Chattanooga has been recognized as the first parish in the Episcopal Church to enter into such a partnership. The National Episcopal Church has a hurricane relief program entitled “We Will Stand With You,” and St. Paul’s, Chattanooga is registered as the first official helping partner parish. We are the “poster child” for the National Church—How about that? Our approach served as the model for the rest of the Episcopal Church, and we can feel good about it.
